FF: Pending…

Hi Folks…

Jim’s doing okay, but by the time I get home from the hospital, I’m too tired to do much on the computer.

Friday Fragments will resume, probably next week.  For now, tell me what you’re reading!

Glad to hear Jim’s okay. Best wishes to him and to his carer! May you both sleep well and recovery quickly.

This week, I’ve been listening to an audiobook of King Solomon’s Mines by H. Rider Haggard (courtesy of Librivox), and am enjoying both the story and the culture shock of some of the Victorian mores. I’m reminded of some of the controversy about Huckleberry Finn.

My reading has been technical, mostly focused on PHP frameworks and libraries, but I haven’t found anything to recommend there just yet.

I get you on Haggard and culture shock, but still, it’s a good book, as is SHE.

      • John C Says:

Oh, I’m thoroughly enjoying it! The culture shock is part of the pleasure of it — the past is a foreign country, after all, and I’m enjoying my tourism. And thanks for the recommendation of another!

Glad to hear Jim’s made it home a little prettier and is doing his PT. Best to you both!

Jane, please tell Jim I said he can replace his knee but it won’t make him any prettier. 😉
He’s a remarkably self-disciplined guy so he’ll do fine. You need to take care of yourself while you’re taking care of him. Being a caregiver is taxing.
Since you’re all about reading, I’m reading one of Jeff Shaara’s Civil War historical novels (the title escapes me at the moment) and Harvey Whitehouse’s “In The Cult” and a book on Kentucky archaeology. And I just ordered Paul Reed’s new book on Salmon Ruin, Aztec, and the Chacoan stuff in the middle San Juan. Jim might be interested.

Hi Jeff, Jim says to tell you he’s already prettier! Jim has heard about the book and would love your review when you’re done.

You know all too much about caregiver fatigue. I’ll be careful!

I just finished Alas, Babylon by Pat Frank. What an excellent book!
Now, I am reading Moon over Soho (Peter Grant 2) by Ben Aaronovitch. It is starting out good and I like the main character.

I am also reading The Temporal Void by Peter F. Hamilton, a science fiction book with a touch of supernatural.

I hope Jim feels good soon and that all the dominoes fall into place to get him home and well!

    Will do.
