FF: Is It Okay To Remind You?

Kel Contemplates The Empires

Wolf’s Search is officially released.  I’m mentioning this because I know that many of you show up on Friday to see which adorable member of my non-human family is posing with what book.  If you want to know more about Wolf’s Search, here’s a link to my announcement.

For those of you just discovering this part of my blog, the Friday Fragments lists what I’ve read over the past week.  Most of the time I don’t include details of either short fiction (unless part of a book-length collection) or magazines.

The Fragments are not meant to be a recommendation list.  If you’re interested in a not-at-all-inclusive recommendation list, you can look on my website under Neat Stuff.

Once again, this is not a book review column.  It’s just a list with, maybe, a bit of description or a few opinions tossed in.

I enjoy hearing what you’re reading, by the way…

Recently Completed:

The Crown of Dalemark by Diana Wynne Jones.  Final book in the Dalemark Quartet.  If you’re willing to try a series that’s going to break a lot of your expectations but  pay off in the end, then I really, really recommend this series.  Diana Wynne Jones shows another side of her talent in this excellent series.

In Progress:

Caesar and Christ by Will Durant.  Audiobook.  The Roman republic is beginning to slide.  We’ve left politics to look at art and drama.

Also:

“Buffalo  Dogs” by Lawrence M. Schoen.  Short story.  If you like stories about con men, space stations, weird aliens, and even weirder alien animals, you can try this tale as a free e-book.  Not as sophisticated or thoughtful as his Barsk, but still fun.

This week, I stopped what I was reading and picked up Wolf’s Search. I tried, but failed, to wait for the printed copy to arrive, and started in on the Kindle edition. It’s been an absolute pleasure, and I’m not done yet.

    Recently Completed –
The Stiehl Assassin by Terry Brooks. The middle books of trilogies are so frustrating because of the cliffhangers. Waiting for book three and the conclusion of the story. Of course it’s Shannara so it never really ends.

The Night Window by Dean Koontz. This is the conclusions of the Jane Hawk books. It’s nice to see good triumph over evil. It’s hope against some really scary science fiction that may not be so fictional. A Dean Koontz book.

Wolf’s Search by Jane Lindskold. I saw the email that it was available, bought the ebook, and read it straight through. As I said in WW, I LOVED IT! I don’t want to put out any spoilers so I’ll stop with I loved it!

    Currently Reading –
I picked up To Green Angel Tower by Tad Williams again. It’s been glaring at me from my TBR pile, with its bookmark sticking out. I started it a while ago and kept skipping over it as new, shorter books arrived from the library. I will finish this book.

Thanks for the review, both here and on Amazon of Wolf’s Search. MUCH appreciated.

I like your comment here about Koontz “hope against…” That sort of attitude is a definite recommendation for me.

His Odd Thomas series and the Jane Hawk series are both hopeful. One person, with help along the way, CAN fight the system/evil/bad guys and win.

      • janelindskold Says:

I’ve read some of the Odd Thomas and enjoyed. Thanks for mentioning the other!

Fighting the system is sort of what me and my friends at DreamForge are trying to do…

I re-read the Sharon Shinn series of the 13th House. Very enjoyable to read. I had not realized these stories were romance until I reread them. Either way, very enjoyable to read with an excellent plot and very good character development.

I’ve had Tad Williams “Green Angel” for some time but I want to read the other two stories first. I’m bad that way; I always want to start at the beginning.

Valuable info. Fortunate me I discovered your web site by accident, and I am shocked why
this twist of fate did not came about earlier!
    I bookmarked it.
