Your Turn, Folks

A Painterly Presentation

My life the last couple of weeks hasn’t been focused on exciting writer things.

(Is there such a thing as an exciting writer thing?)

Basically, I’m a caregiver (because Jim is recovering from total knee replacement) who is doing a lot of chores, and finding time to write in between.

Honestly, I tried really, really hard to think of something to Wander on about that wasn’t a repetition of the last two weeks’ Wanderings and I couldn’t.

So, it’s your turn folks!  Help me out.  Ask me some questions about projects past and present, or some aspect of my writerly life, or even about hobbies or gardens or…

Pretend this is a very small virtual con and you’re attending my “An Hour With…” session.

If I can give a short answer, I’ll put answer in the Comments.  If I can’t answer briefly, I’ll answer in next week’s WW.

  1. Scribbles Says:

How do you relax? Caregiving for family is such a all consuming process – how do you chill, destress yourself? Do you read, cook, garden (I guess you do this one)? Do you have time just to be?

  2. Alien Resort Says:

Is your cat okay with your being busy?

    • janelindskold Says:

All three cats have decided that Jim-Dad is behaving oddly, and so they need extra attention. Happily, they’re willing to let him give part of it, but last night the bed got really crowded.

  3. Mab Morris Says:

Are there healthy snack/finger foods you turn to when you’re full on busy writing? Or full on busy and want time to write?

    • janelindskold Says:

Healthy… Hmm… We try to eat healthy most of the time, so my treats are not healthy. My go-to is black coffee and some form of dark chocolate. In limited quantities…

  4. Sean Says:

Have you ever thought about revisiting the Firekeeper universe and following the adventures of Doc and Elise or Grateful Peace and Citrine or other side characters?

Are there any other past projects you have thought about revisiting?

Have you ever thought about teaming with a manga artist to create a graphic novel past, current or future projects?

Thanks and Hopefully Jim recovers fully

    • janelindskold Says:

      Good questions.

      1) If the right story occurred to me, I’d write one about other characters in the Firekeeper universe, but I don’t have any desire to do “filler.”

      2) Not right now, although eventually I would like to do something else in the universe of the “Breaking the Wall” books and “Artemis Awakening,” both.

      3) If I was approached for an appropriate deal, I’d be interested in illustrated versions of my stories, but so far that hasn’t happened.

Thanks so much, and I’ll let Jim know you sent good wishes for him.

  5. King Ben's Grandma Says:

Here’s a general question… do you think that people are reading more or less? Reading differently? Ebooks and audio vs print. Are people more interested in short stories rather than novels?
Basically, from a writer’s viewpoint, has the readership (?) changed since you started publishing?

Tell Jim we need more bird pictures 😉💕

    • janelindskold Says:

I don’t think I’m in a position to give you a well-researched answer, Angie. I think the convenience of ebooks and audio mean more people who are inclined to read are reading. I think novels or longer works are what most of my friends and associates tend to read, and certainly whenever I write a short story someone asks me for more.

I shall tell Jim about your request for bird pictures. A squirrel devoured our bird block, but we have seed feeders stocked!

  6. anevergreen Says:

I’m never very good at coming up with questions for those things.

    How’s Roary?

    • janelindskold Says:

Roary is now somewhere between six and seven months. He has VERY short hair (which is a change, since our other two are long-haired) and now that the nights are getting colder, he’s wedging himself between us making for a really crowded bed, since Jim has his leg propped up on a bunch of pillows!

  7. anevergreen Says:

awww, but kitten cuddles are totally worth a crowded bed! 🙂
