Questions Looking for Answers

Robin Bathing

This week, the things I am wondering about include:

Would rose water (the type you cook with, not perfume) taste good in tea?  Or how about in frosting?  Or maybe in butter cookie or sugar cookie dough?

Is the first robin a sign of spring when a couple usually winter over in your yard?

(The answer to that one is “No.”  The sign of spring is when the migrating robins come through in sufficient numbers that they empty the bird bath daily.)

When will the flickers vanish and the quail start showing up again?

When did I get used to fifty-degree temperature shifts?  Like nighttime temps in the low-mid-twenties and daytime touching seventy?

I’m also thinking a lot about a book I’m writing, but I’m not one of those writers who enjoys talking about works-in-progress.

    I’m guessing the boiling point thing is due to your altitude. Water doesn’t boil “properly” (for recipe defintions of “boil”) at higher elevations.

    Is my poem for the competition ready or does it need some more editing to make it more poetical?

    How many licks DOES it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop?

    At what point do I realize I’m screwed and going to catch COVID anyway so I might as well do it now, by doing something fun, rather than staying safe and catching it the moment they force us back into the office to work?

    How much wood COULD a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

    All I know about rose water is what I learned from watching the Great British Bakeoff…I know you have to be very careful as it overpowers so many other flavors…I don’t bake, but I sure enjoy watching baking shows!

      This has been fascinating. I plan to try first plain, then in tea, then maybe in something sweet. Who would have thought it would be considered “powerful”?

    I’ve never heard of a food rose water… I can’t decide if it sound good or horrible 🤔 Let us know 😆
    I guessed altitude. I’m with you on the temperature swings. I live in a valley about 15 miles from the coast and we’ve had low 30s overnight and near 80 (with humidity in teens or single digits ☹) during the day.

    I’ve never had much to do with rose water [other than wishing the Persians could avoid drenching their sweets in it], but we used to get a very enjoyable – but rather potent, it’s true – rose tea. From a place called The Canister, in the Osborne Village in Winnipeg, in fact. But this was 40+ years ago, and I’m afraid they’re long gone. However, they didn’t make it themselves so the supplier could still be in business – ask your local tea shop.
